Our Vision

The vision of Neighbor Island Housing Program is a Hawaii where every person has access to safe, stable housing and support needed to thrive. Through strong partnerships, responsive services, and a commitment to people-centered care, the program strives to strengthen communities and ensure that individuals and families have the ability to build secure and sustainable futures.

About Us

The Neighbor Island Housing Program has been providing housing support services to eligible participants since 1998. The program works in partnership with the community agencies across the neighbor islands, including Kauai and Hawaii island, to strengthen coordination of services and better respond to the housing needs of our communities. NIHP provides housing navigation, support services, and referrals to ensure participants have access to the information and assistance needed to maintain stable housing.

NIHP is grounded in housing first and people first approach, recognizing that stable housing is a critical foundation for overall well-being. The program centers dignity, compassion, and respect for every participant, ensuring that services were delivered in a way that prioritizes the needs and experiences of people being served.

As a community-based program, NIHP is committed to advocacy and partnership. The program understands the unique challenges faced by residents across Hawaii, including the high cost of housing, limited outcome opportunities, and the broader economic pressures affecting many households. Through collaboration with community partners and dedicated staff, NIHP works to reduce barriers to housing stability while supporting participants in accessing health care, social services, and other essential resources.
